Perform a quick body scan
Regardless of which area of the body you are waxing, take a quick inventory to make sure you don’t have any cuts or scratches. If you have any moles or beauty marks, let your esthetician know so they can be safeguarded during the waxing process.
Exfoliate – up to day before appointment
One or two days before your appointment, lightly exfoliate your skin, but skip the day of your appointment. Exfoliation helps wax grab hair and not skin, but it can also make skin more sensitive, so lighter exfoliation is better.
Moisturize – up to day before appointment
Same goes for moisturization; healthy, supple skin allows the wax to release more easily, but too much conditioner could coat the hair and thwart the wax’s grip, so no body cream on the day of your session.
Consider pain relief
While our estheticians are experts, and most clients experience little discomfort, consider taking and OTC pain reliever a half hour before your appointment.
Take a break from your Retin-A
Certain medications, such as Retin-A can sensitize skin to waxing. Cease taking retinol-based products for two weeks before waxing, or a month for Accutane. Before making any changes to your prescriptions, always consult with your dermatologist.
