5 Ways to Keep Your Hair Healthy During the Winter

From indoor heating to dry outdoor air, Colorado’s winter air doesn’t do a whole lot of good for our hair. But we don’t have to take it! We’ve put together a list of five things you can do during the winter season to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy without resorting to 24/7 hat hair.

  1. Condition, Condition, Condition

No matter what kind of hair texture you have, you’ll want to find opportunities to add moisture. For example, once a week, use a deep conditioning treatment to really plump up those strands. And throughout the week, try a leave-in condition to help tame frizzy floaters.

  1. Cut Down on Heat Styling

During the winter, you spend a lot of time indoors, which means your hair is continually exposed dry air from heating systems. The more heat your hair encounters, the more likely you are to experience split ends and breakage. If you can, cut back on heat styling with curling irons or flat irons, which will help your hair recover. But if you must use them, invest in good heat-protection products and apply liberally before styling.

  1. Use Sulphate-Free Shampoo

Honestly, this is good all-around advice, but especially effective during the winter. Sulphate is a common ingredient in popular shampoos, but it actually strips hair of beneficial oils. So toss the old bottle and look for something free from as many chemicals as possible.

  1. Invest in a Humidifier

Good for your hair and your skin! Run a humidifier while you’re at home (and when you sleep) so your hair can absorb the moisture in the air, retaining its shine.
